Independence Day celebrated at Vet varsity Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: 69th Independence Day was celebrated at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana with great enthusiasm. Dr. AS Nanda, Vice–Chancellor, GADVASU unfurled the National Flag at 8.35 am in the University premises. He inspected the 1st Pb. R & V squadron of NCC Cadets.

Dr. Nanda, firstly paid rich tributes to all those who fought for country’s freedom. He said that we all must remember and salute them. In his address,

Dr. Nanda revealed that we are planning new research projects for further growth in livestock services. He said that dairy farm of university will be strengthened for research on indigenous cows like ‘Sahiwal’. Regional Research and Training Centers at Kaljharani (Bathinda) and Talwara will be more equipped in near future. He reiterated the slogan ‘Produce Graduates which are farmer ready’ to inculcate a perfectionist thought among the students of varsity. Dr. Nanda insisted that we should work on buffaloes because they are native of this land and will be more beneficial according to our needs. He said that we will develop a system to provide one month internship to our graduates in other universities or foreign universities for a holistic training. Dr. Nanda said that a teacher or doctor should be expert in inter-disciplinary subjects. It will enhance his efficiency and research quality. While boosting students he said that every student should participate in extra-curricular activities or any of sport.

Dr. Nanda told that Punjab Govt. has agreed to pay a stipend of Rs. 6, 000/- to intern students of college of fisheries and college of dairy science & technology. He revealed that a committee has been formed to develop a promotion policy of non-teaching staff.

Dr. Nanda while explaining the future targets vowed that imparting quality education and dissemination of knowledge/technologies/practices at farmer’s door step to enhance profitability from dairying, fisheries, piggery, poultry and goat will be top priorities.

Dr. Darshan Singh Barhi, Welfare Officer of university offered amount of one lakh to university to give Gold Medal to two students from its interest for their performance in cultural activities. Dr. Nanda honoured two employees of dairy farm Sahibdeen Maurya and Raj Karan for their exemplary work. Impressive musical events were organized by students of varsity. The function was attended by Officers of the GADVASU, Heads of Departments, faculty, staff and students. The celebration was concluded with National Anthem.
