PATIALA: The Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital today organized a function to celebrate World Health Day.
Dr AS Sekhon, Dean of the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, who was the Chief Guest, said the World Health Day 2021 comes at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic has undercut recent health gains, pushed more people into poverty and food insecurity, and amplified gender, social and health inequities.
He said the World Health Day is observed annually to create awareness about health and wellbeing and draws the attention of people from all around the world to highlight important health issues. It is very imperative to be prepared mentally, physically, and financially for all kinds of uncertainties during these constantly evolving times.
The outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic is one example of such an unprecedented situation. Some people were able to live healthier lives and had better access to health services and some were facing difficulty fighting back. These unforeseeable situations make us realize the actual importance of planning and securing our health above all the other necessities of life, he added.
Dr Jasbir Kaur, Director, Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, said April 7 of each year marks the celebration of World Health Day. The theme for World Health Day 2021 is “Building a fairer, healthier world for everyone”.
Dr Amarjit Singh, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, speaking on the occasion said our health is the result of not merely our own wisdom and care. It is also synchronised with the wonderful advancements in medical sciences that our doctors utilise to incorporate a human touch into keeping us healthy.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Dr SPS Goraya, Medical Superintendent, Dr Kamaljit Singh, Principal of the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, and Dr Davinder Kaur, Principal of the College of Nursing.
