NAWANSHAHR: While there has been a consistent decrease in new Covid-19 positive cases over the past few days, reporting of as many as four cases of Black Fungus ( Mucormycosis) in the district in the past couple of days has become a cause of concern both for the health authorities and public here.

Civil Surgeon Dr Gurdeep Singh Kapoor confirmed that four patients of Black Fungus were presently admitted in various hospitals in the district. While one person is being treated for the disease at the district's civil hospital here, three others are being treated in two different private hospitals in the town, he said.
The patient, a 60 year old diabetic, admitted in the civil hospital here said that he contracted the dreadful fungal infection after an attack of Covid-19. He said that he also had to undergo a nasal surgery at PGI a couple of days ago for the disease. He urged people not to delay Covid treatment after being detected for the disease. Chances of recovery from Black Fungus too solely depend upon early diagnosis and treatment, said the Civil Surgeon.
