Ex Sarpanch Basti OF Kang Kalan village arrested for using caste remarks, assault

PHAGWARA: The Lohian Khas police have arrested an ex-sarpanch for using cast remarks and assault.  Shahkot Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Onkar Singh Brar said the accused has Harbhajan Singh alias Bhajanna(Ex sarpanch) a resident of Basti Kang Kalan village.

Gurpreet Daudhar alias Yama, a resident of the same village, had complained to the police that he was sitting in his house on May 27 discussing a village issue when the accused Harbhajan Singh came and requested him to come to his house under a conspiracy where the other two accused were already sitting.

The complainant had said all the accused said they do not recognize any panchayat, and started beating him .
DSP said a case under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 3(5) (committing crime with common intention 0 and section 3(1) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act 1989 was registered against the accused and two others.
