Young man in Phagwara stabbed to death after a minor altercation

PHAGWARA: A Sikkim Migrant youth has been stabbed to death after a minor altercation in Phagwara last night. The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Asif Ansari, (21), resident of Singhtam Forest Block East (Sikkim).

Giving information about the incident, SHO Satnampura Surjit Singh Patdar and Chahedu Chowki in-charge Darshan Singh Bhatti said that Sushak Shekhar, a young man near Law Gate who had come here to do MBA but the university was closed due to corona. The reason was that he had been living in room number 18 in the Platinum apartment here for the last 2-3 months.

As the class did not start, it opened a cafe called Three-X near Law Gate. He called Ranjan Kumar alias Mithu , a resident of Patna, Bihar, from his village Patna 10-15 days ago to work as a chef here.

Due to the Holi festival, Sushak's old friends Mohammad Asif Ansari and Mujammil both came here on March 27 and played Holi together all day even on the day of Holi. Asif and Sushak are old friends and studied B.Tech together in Chandigarh.

He said that after playing Holi, when they all went to the room in the evening, they started eating and drinking. Meanwhile, when Asif told Ranjan, "I grabbed my mobile, he said that your mobile was in the cupboard." Asif slapped Niranjan twice for this, after which Ranjan Kumar brought a knife lying in the nearby kitchen and stabbed Asif in the abdomen and then in front of his neck. He was seriously injured.

After which friends brought him to the Civil Hospital for treatment but the doctor, seeing his serious condition, referred him, after which Asif Ansari died in a private hospital while undergoing treatment.

After informing the heirs of the deceased, the police today registered a case against Ranjan Kumar alias Mithu son of Sita Ram Chaudhary, resident of Patna (Bihar) under Section 302 IPC on the statements of Jalil Mia, son of the deceased's father Nasir Anusari. A case has been registered and he has been arrested.

The official added that the body-worn cameras will help improve the performance of police staff besides enabling the management to have audio and video evidence of any accident, live recording of traffic management, modern policing on motorways and highways as well as increasing public confidence.
