Woman Booked for Abetment to Suicide After Man Ends Life in Jalandhar

PHAGWARA: The Nakodar police have registered a case of abetment to suicide following the death of a man who allegedly took his own life after prolonged harassment, mental pressure and threats. The case was registered on the basis of a statement given by Harpreet Kaur, wife of the deceased, at Lohian police station.

DSP Nakodar Onkar Singh Brar stated that, the deceased, Sukhwinderpal Singh, a resident of village Turna under Lohian police station  was allegedly subjected to continuous harassment by Surjeet Kaur, wife of Indu and daughter of Mahinder Singh, a resident of village Mudda under City Sadar Nakodar police station . The complainant alleged that the accused repeatedly threatened and mentally tortured her husband, creating extreme psychological stress.
The complaint further stated that due to the persistent pressure, harassment and threats, Sukhwinderpal Singh became deeply distressed and ultimately ended his life by hanging himself. The incident reportedly left the family in shock, prompting the wife to approach the police seeking justice.

On the basis of the statement, the police registered case under section 306IPC at Nakodar under relevant sections of the law pertaining to abetment to suicide. The body was taken into police custody, and necessary legal formalities were completed before further action.

Police officials said that an investigation has been initiated, and statements of witnesses are being recorded to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the suicide. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, they added.
