NAWANSHAHR: With the arrest of six persons including three women, the district police today claimed to have solved the murder of Balvir Singh, 60, of Khatkar Kalan, near Banga. Balvir Singh was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the morning of January 17 at his residence and the police had registered a case on the statement of Amarjit Kaur, wife of the deceased. The deceased had returned from Lebanon around one month ago. He had been residing in Lebanon for the past 23—24 years.

District police chief Alka Meena while giving details here today said that Amarjit Kaur in her statement to the police had told that their daughter Amandeep Kaur had found the body of deceased in his room on the ground floor with a cut around his neck. Their dog was too found lying unconscious in his cage. On checking, they found that some gold including two biscuits and around a cash of Rs 45, 000 were missing from the almirah. The Banga Sadar police had registered a case under Section 460 of IPC in this regard.

Police chief said that their investigation revealed that both the mother--daughter duo had in fact planned the murder of the deceased as they considered him an obstacle in their freedom. The duo planned the murder in association with Jaswinder Kaur of Jian (police station Chabbewal), Ashok Kumar, Shiva, and Sadam Hussain, currently all residing at Islamabad under Sadar police station at Hoshiarpur.

As per SSP, the mother-daughter duo planned the murder as due to their lavish life style they had come under a debt of Rs 15 lakh and after selling the gold biscuits, they were now planning to get hold of Rs 12-13 lakh lying in the bank account of the deceased. Through Jaswinder Kaur, they hired Ashok Kumar to kill the deceased for Rs 5 lakh. The killers were called to their house on the evening of January 16-17 who later in the night executed the murder by first breaking the neck-bone of the deceased while he was sleeping. The four accused called from outside were given Rs 28, 000 in cash by the duo and they were later made to leave their residence in the night itself. The pet dog was administered opium in order to ensure any disturbance from him. The report of theft of gold biscuits and cash was found bogus by the police. The police will seek their police remand, said the SSP.
