Snatcher arrested after encounter by Shahpur police

PHAGWARA: The Shahkot police have arrested a notorious snatcher after an encounter. Shahkot Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Onkar Singh Brar said the accused has been identified as Jora Singh, son of Jagdish Singh, a resident of Pippli village under Lohian Khas police station.

DSP said that the accused was roaming in the Koharr Kalan village area and was chased by the police, who signaled to stop. He fired at the police with the intention to kill, and the police retaliated and fired at the accused, which injured his leg. He was arrested and rushed to the Shahkot community center.

DSP said a country-made pistol, 32 bore live cartridge, and 1 empty were recovered from his possession.

DSP said the accused and his two accomplices, identified as Lovpreet, son of Mangal Singh, a resident of Mianni village, Lakhwindar Singh, son of Harmesh Singh of Chak Pippli village, had attacked workers of a company constructing the National Way at Puniyan village, snatched money and other items, and fired in the air on September 23.

DSP said a case under sections 109(attempt to murder ), 311(robbery), and 351(criminal intimidation) of the BNS and sections 25/27/54/59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused, and ten cases are pending against him in different police stations.
