PHAGWARA: A string of unrelated but serious criminal incidents were registered across police stations in district kapurthala involving robbery at knifepoint, assault, unlawful trespass, road-rage violence and communal provocation.
In the first case, Som, a resident of Village Lom in Baghpat (UP), reported that while travelling on his Hero Splendor motorcycle (UP-17-AB-2083) from Rajouri toward his village, he stopped near J&K’s Chhehru area to take a phone call. Two men from a Swift car, one masked, allegedly brandished a sharp weapon and robbed him of his motorcycle, a bag containing two months’ wages (₹24, 000), vehicle documents, insurance papers and clothes before fleeing toward Phagwara. Police registered a case under Sections 382 IPC and arrested accused Parmjeet Singh and Lakvir Singh (alias Reena), while two others—Goswa and Amrit from Nijra—escaped.
In another incident in Kapurthala, Parmjeet Singh of Village Amlgir reported that three men on a Splendor motorcycle (PB08-FQ-4401), armed with swords and a sharp-edged weapon, assaulted him outside his home after an argument, robbed him of ₹4, 000–₹5, 000, and attempted to flee. Locals caught one accused, Lakvir Singh (Reena), while two accomplices, Goswa and Amrit, managed to escape. A case under IPC Sections 323, 341, 506 and 452 was registered.
A separate case was filed by Rajak Sharma of Saipran Colony, Kapurthala, who stated that after a stray dog was accidentally run over by his vehicle (PB08-FC-6852), a group led by Shiv Vadwa, Nikh Vadwa, Vikhal Vadwa, their associates and a woman allegedly forced entry into his flat, assaulted his staff and security guard, vandalised property, broke the main door, and snatched a gold chain weighing about five tolas. Several staff members, including Vijay Singh and Shantanu Varma, sustained injuries from repeated stick blows. Police booked the accused under IPC Sections 323, 324, 354A, 354B, 148 and 149.
In another violent episode in Begowal, Raji, wife of Kulwinder, alleged that due to an old rivalry, eight accused including Lakvir Chand (Rinku), Rajvir, Neelam, Hinsi, Mogi, Asvani Kumar, Lov (Budhi) and Akash assaulted her, tore her clothes and inflicted injuries. A case was registered under Sections 323, 324, 341, 295, 295A, 506 and 34 IPC.
Separately, Arshdeep Singh of Amritpur village reported a road-rage incident in which Baldev Singh and his brother Tarseem, allegedly intoxicated, blocked the road with a mini-pickup vehicle. When asked to give way, they reportedly hurled abuses and assaulted him. During the scuffle, Baldev allegedly removed Arshdeep’s turban, pulled his beard and attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon, causing injuries to his nose. Police filed a case under Sections 341, 323, 324, 148 and 149 IPC.
In another assault case from Kapurthala, Rahul Nahar (Rishu) claimed he was surrounded and beaten by Sukhjinder Singh (Mittu), his brother Bhindu and several unidentified men near Hameera railway crossing while heading for personal work on his motorcycle. A case was accordingly registered.
