Robbers in police uniform looted Rs.7 lakhs from trader on Phagwara-Jalandhar national highway

PHAGWARA: Some Unidentified robbers, dressed in police uniforms, looted cash of Rs Seven Lakhs from a Ludhiana resident trader in the pretext of checking the vehicle near Village Saprod on Phagwara—Jalandhar National Highways late last night.

Subhash Kumar, Manager, Punjab Timber Traders, Ludhiana, said that he was on his way to Ludhiana at night from Gurdaspur with his driver when he came across a bridge on Phagwara GT Road near village Saprod, he was stopped by five men in police uniforms, three of whom were wearing uniforms. He said people in police uniforms told him that he had broken the traffic single and had been stopped.

He said that the robbers in police uniforms took him out of the car and started searching the vehicle, during which they took out Rs. 7, 20, 000 from under the car seat and said, "Come with us, we have to investigate." The Victim told the police and said they diverted the vehicle from Phagwara, unloaded it and fled with cash. The incident was reported to the police, who have launched an investigation against five unidentified persons.
