PHAGWARA: A tragic road accident occurred on the Amritsar GT Road near Dhilwan in Kapurthala district, where a Swift car and a Thar vehicle collided head-on. The incident took place near village Hambowal late last evening.
The collision was so severe that both vehicles were badly damaged. One person lost his life in the accident, while another sustained serious injuries.
On receiving information, Subhanpur police reached the spot and initiated investigation. The body of the deceased was taken into custody and kept at the mortuary of Civil Hospital, Kapurthala.
Dr. Chirag Gupta, posted in the emergency ward of Civil Hospital, Kapurthala, said that Tajinder Singh, son of Jagjit Singh and a resident of RCF, was brought to the hospital by a 108 ambulance. He was travelling in the Swift car and was critically injured. After first aid, he was referred to a higher medical centre due to his serious condition.
According to people accompanying the injured, the deceased has been identified as Mandeep Singh, son of Pyara Singh, a resident of Batala, who was travelling in the Thar vehicle. Subhanpur police have kept the body at the Civil Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the accident.
