PHAGWARA: A migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh was killed and his companion critically injured when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck near Harbanspur gate on Phagwara- Hoshiarpur road on Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Somveer, a resident of Malpur Dhera in district Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. He had been staying in Puglana village under Mehtiana police station limits. Somveer, along with his friend Sonu, son of Jai Narain, also from Puglana, was returning to his village after collecting wages from Ravalipindi when the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m.
The two were riding a Hero Splendor motorcycle (registration number UP-24-BA-2476) when a truck coming from the opposite direction rammed into them. The impact was so severe that both men were thrown onto the road. Somveer died on the spot, while Sonu sustained serious injuries.
A case has been registered against the unidentified truck driver, who fled the scene after the collision. Police said efforts are on to trace the vehicle and the driver.
