PHAGWARA: A 20-year-old student of Lovely Professional University (LPU) allegedly died by suicide on campus on Monday, prompting an immediate police inquiry and raising concerns among the academic community.
The deceased has been identified as Nikhil Simak, a resident of Sunner Khurd village near Phillaur. According to preliminary information, the student reportedly jumped from 9th floor of the Central Library building within the university premises.
University authorities and fellow students rushed him to Civil Hospital Phagwara for emergency medical assistance. Emergency Medical Officer Dr. Simar examined the student and declared him brought dead.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) Madhvi Sharma reached the spot shortly after the incident. She stated that local police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragic event. “All aspects are being examined, and statements are being recorded. The matter is under investigation, ” she said.
The university administration expressed grief over the untimely demise of the student and extended condolences to the bereaved family. Officials stated that they are cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities in the ongoing inquiry.
