MOHALI: Renowned Kabaddi promoter Rana Balachauria was today shot dead by four unidentified assailants during a kabaddi match at Sohana near Mohali today evening. Targeted killings in Punjab are on the rise as the AAP government is not able to control the gangster violence.
Police said that shooters approached Rana for a photograph and too the opportunity to fire on him from close range. Rana was rushed to Fortis hospital Mohali where he was declared dead. The involvement of some gangsters is not ruled out.
The firing incident occurred when a match was being played at Sohana during 29th annual Kabaddi tournament. The peole ran here and there after firing incident. It was sheer negligence of police that gangsters escaped safely after the firing. Many police personnel were present on the site. The accused fled in a Balero jeep.
Punjabi singer Mankirat Aulakh was also invoted to perform at the kabaddi tournament and incident of firing occurred minutes before his arrival at the scene.
