AMRITSAR: In an intelligence based operation amidst the ongoing anti-drugs Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling module with the arrest of a drug kingpin and recovered 5.025 kg Heroin from his possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday.

The arrested accused has been identified as Rajpal Singh (25), a resident of Majid Building in Chheharta, Amritsar. The accused has a criminal history with cases under sections of NDPS Act and Arms Act registered against him.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that arrested accused was operating a cross border network linked to a Pakistan-based handler and using the Dera Baba Nanak sector to retrieve drone-dropped drug consignments from across the border. Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages in this case to expose the full nexus.

Sharing operational details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that during the follow-up investigations of backward and forward linkages in the case wherein a drug peddler Lucky was arrested with 3 kg heorin in August 2025, police teams have found involvement of Rajpal Singh, leading to his nomination in the FIR. Subsequently, on October 19, the police police teams arrested Rajpal Singh, and upon his disclosure and identification, recovered an additional 5.025 kg heroin.

The CP said that accused Rajpal was using bags filled with clothes to conceal the drug consignments and transporting them via buses to various bus stands, including Jalandhar and Ludhiana, to deliver them safely. More arrests and recoveries are likely in coming days, he said.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 151 dated 07-08-2025 had already been registered under sections 21-B, 21-C, 27-A and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Chheharta in Amritsar.
