Armed Robbery and Shooting Injures Street Vendor Near Village Shrine

PHAGWARA: A street vendor was injured in a daring robbery after being attacked by three unidentified assailants on a motorcycle near a village shrine in Kapurthala district on Friday late night, police said.

According to the complaint filed by the victim Rajinder Kumar resident of village Aujala, he had closed his daily business and was returning home on late Froday night, when the incident occurred. As he approached the area near the shrine in Barindpur village, three unidentified masked faces youths intercepted him. The attackers allegedly blocked his path and threatened him at gunpoint, demanding money.

Fearing for his life, the vendor handed over his entire day’s earnings, estimated at approximately ₹10, 000. He reportedly pleaded with the assailants, explaining his personal hardships, but they forcibly took the cash and proceeded to flee.

Before escaping, the attackers fired two gunshots. One bullet was discharged into the ground, while another struck the victim on the left side of his body, leaving him injured. The suspects then fled the scene on their motorcycle.The injured was admitted to kapurthala hospital.

The injured man was later provided medical assistance, and his condition is being monitored. Senior Superintent of Police Gaurav Toora said the police have registered a case under sections 394, 307, 34 IPC and arms act related to robbery, attempt to murder, and illegal use of firearms. An investigation has been initiated, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects.
