KAITHAL: A tragic incident unfolded in Kaithal where a young couple allegedly consumed poison in a hotel room, leading to their death by suicide.
According to police sources, the two had checked into the hotel together. Soon after their health deteriorated, both were rushed to a nearby hospital. The woman was declared dead on arrival, while the young man, identified as Sukhjinder, succumbed to poisoning nine hours later during treatment.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the couple was in love and wished to marry, but their families opposed the relationship. Reportedly, they left their homes without informing anyone and decided to take the extreme step. The police have sent the bodies for postmortem examination at the Civil Hospital.
Family members of the deceased girl, however, denied knowledge of her relationship with Sukhjinder. “We did not even know she was in touch with him, ” they told police. The girl, whose father had already passed away, was one of three sisters, with one sibling already married.
Meanwhile, the boy’s family said that on Tuesday morning, Sukhjinder left home telling them he was going to work. He was employed as a labourer.
Police officials have started further investigation into the case and are recording statements of the families to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.
