PHAGWARA: A case of alleged fraud involving ₹25 lakh has come to light in the Sultanpur Lodhi , where police have registered a case against a couple accused of duping a villager on the pretext of investment in property and business.

According to the police, the case has been registered at Talwandi Chaudharian police station against Pritpal Singh and his wife Mandeep Kaur, both residents of village Boolpur, under Sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC.

As per the complaint filed by Gurpreet Singh, a resident of the same village, the accused allegedly persuaded him to invest money by promising high returns through investments in property and business ventures. Trusting their assurances, Gurpreet Singh reportedly handed over ₹25 lakh to the couple over a period of time.
However, the complainant alleged that despite repeated assurances, the accused neither invested the money as promised nor returned the amount. When he started demanding his money back, the accused allegedly continued to delay the matter and avoided giving any clear information about the investment.

Following a preliminary inquiry and examination of relevant documents, the police registered a case against the accused. ASI Balbir Singh confirmed that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway. Police teams have started efforts to trace the accused and initiate further legal proceedings in the matter.
