PHAGWARA: A wave of tension swept through Eastwood village near Phagwara late Tuesday late evening when a group of armed assailants opened fire on a local bouncer, leaving him seriously injured. The victim, identified as Sandeep Kumar of Phagwara was deployed on security duty in the area when he was attacked by around five to six men carrying firearms.
According to preliminary police reports, the attackers suddenly opened fire at Sandeep from close range. In a dramatic turn of events, one of the bullets struck the mobile phone in his pocket, which exploded upon impact. The blast resulted in both bullet and burn injuries to Sandeep, who collapsed on the spot amid the chaos. Locals rushed to his aid and informed the police immediately.
DSP Phagwara Bharat Bhushan, who arrived at the scene with a police team, said that one of the accused has been identified as Sukha, a resident of Talhan village. The assailants, however, managed to escape before the police could reach the location. “Initial investigation suggests that the attack was a result of personal enmity, ” the DSP confirmed, adding that special teams have been dispatched to trace the culprits.
Meanwhile, SP Phagwara Madhvi Sharma stated that a case has been registered under Sections 307 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Arms Act. “We are recording statements of witnesses and working on multiple leads. The accused will be arrested soon, ” she assured.
The injured Sandeep Kumar was rushed to Johal Hospital in Jalandhar, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have described his condition as stable. Police personnel have maintained a strong presence in Eastwood village to prevent any further untoward incidents and to reassure residents, who remain shaken by the sudden outbreak of violence.
Cops have emphasized that no fatalities were reported, but the incident has highlighted rising concerns about personal rivalries turning violent in the region. The police are investigating and collecting further details .
