CHANDIGARH: The General Category Welfare Federation strongly opposes the  proposed implementation of the 85th amendment to the constitution which allows consequential seniority.
Shyam Lal Sharma Patron of the Federation said that there is a great resentment amongst the general category employees over Punjab
Government thinking to implement the 85th. amendment in the state in view of the coming assembly elections.
In Punjab the number of posts for reserved category SC/ST employees is already filled up as their share quota and in some departments there
the number is more than their share quota.
Kuljit Singh Ratol President PSPCL/PSTCL unit said that in case this the amendment is implemented then all the top posts in all
the departments of the state government will be occupied by the SC/ST employees and the general category employees will suffer a major setdown
in their careers. Not even a single general category employee will ever become head of the department.
Meeting photo enclosed Jagdish Singla Press Secretary said that the meeting also demanded the setting
up of a commission for the welfare of general category on the lines of backward class commission.
The meeting cautioned the Punjab Government not to take hasty decisions which have very long implications and cannot be reversed.
