CHANDIGARH: The fingers are crossed for the outcome of election of Chandigarh Mayor to be held today at 1 PM amid allegations of horse trading by BJP. The AAP and Congress have joined hands to defeat the BJP candidate.
The BJP had won the seat of Mayor last year with defection of one Congress councillor to BJP because the BJP and AAP both had equal 14 votes.
The situation was almost same this year even as one councillor of AAP defected to BJP and one from BJP defected to AAP. The BJp has total 14 coucillors and one vote of MP is with them. The AAP has 13 votes and Congress has 7 councillors.
The AAP and Congress have fored an alliance in Chandiigarh and exprected to win the elections. The AAP has fielded candidate for seat of Mayor while Congress is contesting for posts of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
Kuldip Teeta of AAP is Mayor candidate while BJP has fielded Manoj Sonkar. For post of Senior Dy Mayor Congress-AAP has fielded Congress leader Gurpreet Singh Gabi and Deputy for Dy Mayor Nirmala Devi. The BJP has fielded Kuljit Singh Sandhu and Rajinder Sharma respectively.
BJP leaders are claiming that they would win the Mayor post despite alliance between AAP and Congress. However if no defections are made before the polling, AAP-Congress alliance is sure to win all the three posts. BJP will be defeated in MC poll after eight years.
Meanwhile AAP MP Raghav Chadha who is camping in Chandigarh and former Cogress MP Pawan Bansal late last night held a meeting to discuss the modlaities of alliance and strategy for today's election.
