RBU observes Women’s Equality Day

MOHALI: Rayat Bahra University observed Women Equality Day to mark global recognition of the ongoing struggle for equal rights and opportunities for women on the theme ‘Embrace Equity’. This theme underscores the importance of achieving gender equality, not just for economic growth, but also as a fundamental human right.

Chancellor Gurvinder Singh Bahra said that Rayat Bahra University is committed to provide women equality in various areas of its working by promoting and supporting women mentally and professionally. He said that to promote the right of education for girls, many schemes have been launched by the University.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Dr Parvinder Singh stressed on the need to recognize achievements, acknowledge ongoing challenges, and work collectively towards gender equality. He said that there has been progress over the last decades, but the world is not on track to achieve gender equality by 2030.

Dr Simerjit Kaur, Dean of Students Welfare, stressed that commitment and bold action were needed to accelerate progress, including through promotion of laws, policies, budgets and institutions that advance gender equality. She said that gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.

Prof Gurpinder Kumar, keynote speaker, from Central University, Allahabad, listed various facts and figures about Women’s Equality in India and abroad. He said that Women’s Equality Day stands as a yearly commitment to recognize achievements, acknowledge ongoing challenges, and work collectively towards gender equality.
