Punjab Vidhan Sabha SC/ST/OBC Welfare Committee Visits GNDU

AMRITSAR: The Members of SC/ST/OBC Welfare Committee of Punjab Vidhan Sabha comprises of MLA Mrs. Saravjit Kaur Manuke, Chairperson, MLA Amrit Rattan Kotfatta, MLA Jasbir Singh Sandhu and MLA Dr. Nachhatar Pal visited Guru Nanak Dev University and discussed an old news clip re-circulated in social media relating to creation of a separate section of Reserve Category students in the University Business School.

In this meeting Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.S. Bajwa, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. K.S. Kahlon, Registrar, Prof. Palwinder Singh, Controller Examinations, S. Satpal Singh Sokhi, Senate Member, Dr. Pavleen Soni, Head, University Business School and Dr. Vikram Sandhu, Nodal Officer, Dr. Jasveen Kaur, former head UBS, Col. A.S Chahal, Security Officer and other officers were present.

After the satisfactory discussion, the Committee members recommended that FIR be filed with the Police Commissionarate (Cyber Crime Cell) to investigate the issue as it causes defamation to the Guru Nanak Dev University.

A special meeting was organized in the office of the Vice Chancellor of the University. On this occasion, Dr. Pavleen Soni, Head, University Business School and Dr. Vikram Sandhu, Nodal Officer apprised the committee members that that the news item viraled recently is baseless and misleading. They said that there is no separate section of students ever admitted in Reserve category in any class since the inception of the department.

The University has been successfully offering several schemes launched by Centre and State Govts for the welfare of SC/ST/OBC students admitted. These included Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC Students, availability of Grievance Handling cell for SC/ST and a Nodal officer deputed by the University for SC/ST Category to avoid any possible discrimination.

MLA Mrs. Saravjit Kaur appricated the achievements of the Univesity in various fields and also congratulated the Prof. Sandhu for this. On making a personal visit to the department, the committee members interacted with the students and expressed their satisfaction.
