MOHALI: Rayat Bahra University (RBU) celebrated the 77th Republic Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit at its campus. The celebrations began with the unfurling of the Tricolour by Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor of the University, along with Group Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar, in the presence of faculty members, staff and students.

Addressing the gathering, Chancellor Gurvinder Singh Bahra said that Republic Day is among the most significant national occasions as it marks the adoption of the Constitution, which established India as a sovereign, democratic and republican nation. He added that the day symbolises the true freedom of spirit, the rule of law and governance based on fundamental democratic principles. The patriotic zeal witnessed on Republic Day, he said, unites the entire nation despite its rich diversity.

Group Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar, while speaking on the occasion, said that the democratic rights and freedoms enjoyed by citizens today are the result of the immense sacrifices made by freedom fighters and the visionary efforts of the architects of the Indian Constitution. He urged students to uphold constitutional values and contribute positively to nation-building.

The celebrations also featured a colourful cultural programme, with students presenting folk dances and songs representing different states of the country. The vibrant performances captivated the audience and showcased India’s cultural diversity.

On the occasion, long-serving employees of the university were also specially honoured in recognition of their dedication and valuable contribution to the institution.
