Kala Utsav at Chitkara International School concludes

CHANDIGARH: Six-day Kala Utsav, in its second phase, presented a cultural feast that continued for a series of competitions in the categories of dance, drama and music.. On its concluding day at Chitkara International School, Sector 25, Chandigarh, the event was devoted to the Indian folk music, celebrating the melody and rhythm that reflected the rich cultural folk legacy of our country.

The outstanding talent of the students in the field of Folk Singing was beautifully showcased in a competition under the Vocal Music Folk (Solo) category. The day was filled with enthusiastic participation by the school students mesmerizing the audience with their expert rendition of folk songs from different states of the country.

The Competition commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Pedagogy Coordinator, Samagra Shiksha, Ms. Rajni Mahajan and Ms. Honey Chitkara, Principal, Chitkara International School along with the judges for the competition.Talented students from Government and private schools participated in the competition in the male and female category in which 20 were males and 31 females. With their versatile melodies, the students dressed in traditional clothing, were full of passion and high spirits to bring out their best. The supporting musical
instruments and the rhythms created a festive atmosphere in the auditorium with the audience tapping their feet to the beats of a variety of traditional folk songs. The occasion was also graced by the esteem presence of the Dy. Director II, School Education, Ms. Ravinder Kaur, along with Ms. Manjit Kaur, Mission Coordinator, Samagra Shiksha, Ms. Komal Sharma, Pedagogy Coordinator,

The competition was adjudged by renowned musicians including Shri Majid Khan, renowned Tabla Artist, Shri Sanjeev Kapoor, music producer, composer and singer with 35 years of experience and Dr Rajbir Kaur, Professor and approved artist in the field of Light Music and Folk Music. For reviewing the performances of the singers, the judges took into consideration the various parameters like the shaili, sur , taal creativity, tonal quality, etc. The participants were complemented by the judges on their excellent performance.
