MOHALI: Central Library of Rayat Bahra University has taken the initiative of establishing a Bottle Garden within its premises as a small step to promote the idea of recycling and encourage students to develop their own bottle gardens.

Prof Sakshi Bahl, Librarian, Central Library, in her address to the students said that in our busy lives it might not be possible for everyone to plant a tree but that should not hold us back in doing our bit for the environment.

“In the era of instant coffee, instant noodles and instant gratification we have come up with an instant solution for air purification and saving the environment by starting to build our own bottle garden. Find an empty glass/plastic bottle and fill it with water. Put a twig of Money plant in it and it's done. Every leaf contributes and helps in air purification and reduces carbon levels in the environment”, she added.

Central Library Rayat Bahra University has started developing a bottle garden within its premises starting with installation of 78 money plant bottles. Sakshi Bahl said growing plants in a bottle is a fascinating and rewarding project that combines elements of gardening, science, and art and has numerous benefits.

She said bottle gardens are visually appealing and can serve as beautiful decorations in homes, offices, corridors, offices or classrooms. She called upon the students to start their own bottle garden and make this earth a better place to live.

She urged the students and faculty to click the pictures of their garden and share pictures with the university and also on social media so that more and more youngsters join hands and promote the idea. The staff of Central Library gifted these Money plant bottles to all the dignitaries of Rayat Bahra University.

Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor of Rayat Bahra University, appreciated the idea and encouraged the Central Library team to develop the Bottle Garden with full enthusiasm and set a great example of recycling for the younger generation. He motivated the staff to lead by example.

Dr Parvinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Rayat Bahra University, lauded the effort and conveyed his best wishes for the noble cause.
