GNDU's 56th Foundation Day Dedicated to Guru Tegh Bahadur's 350th Martyrdom Anniversary

AMRITSAR: Guru Nanak Dev University will dedicate its 56th Foundation Day to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, announced Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Karamjeet Singh. 

Preparations for the 56th Foundation Day are in full swing, stated Registrar Dr. K.S. Chahal. 

Presiding over a special meeting held today regarding the event, Registrar Dr. K.S. Chahal said that under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Karamjeet Singh, the 56th Foundation Day will be celebrated with religious and academic grandeur on November 24, 2025. This year, the occasion will be dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. 

Dr. Chahal informed that GNDU, established in 1969, has drawn inspiration from the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and made significant contributions to education, research, and the development of Punjabi culture. 

He added that final touches are being given to the preparations under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh. A meeting was held with heads of departments and officials to review all programmes. During the meeting, Registrar Dr. K.S. Chahal presented a detailed report on the preparations made by various committees. 

Invitations are being sent to students, faculty, alumni, social organisations, and other dignitaries to participate in the celebrations. 

The main event will be held at the university’s main campus, where three eminent scholars will deliver academic lectures. A special exhibition highlighting the university’s achievements will also be organised. 

Vice Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh said, “This Foundation Day is not merely a symbol of the university’s accomplishments but an opportunity to pay homage to the legacy of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. GNDU will remain committed to fostering innovation, ethics, and a spirit of service among students.” 

Registrar Dr. Chahal stated that the 56th Foundation Day will symbolise the confluence of faith, education, and research, and will mark a new commemorative beginning as a tribute at the feet of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. 

Dr. K.S. Chahal further revealed that on November 24, the bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib will take place at 8 am, followed by kirtan by the Hazoori Ragi Jatha from Sri Harmandir Sahib and university students. At 11 am, academic lectures will be delivered at the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Auditorium by former professor of Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration Dr. Brijpal Singh, former professor of Punjabi University Patiala Dr. Kehar Singh, and Business Development and Project Head Engineer Supreet Pal Singh from PTESSA Industries, Indonesia. 

He also said that this year’s painting competition, themed “Water’s Nature Beyond the Shores, ” is dedicated to Punjab’s flood victims. A book exhibition and folk art performances will also be organised on the occasion, with up to 50 per cent discount on university publications. 

Dr. Chahal added that Guru Ka Langar will be served continuously from 1 pm in front of the Indoor Stadium. In the evening, from 7 to 8 pm, a kirtan darbar will be held at the Gurdwara Sahib, followed by the distribution of milk and jalebi as langar.
