MOHALI: In a dedicated effort towards environmental preservation and national pride, Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Jhanjeri, Mohali, organized a significant tree plantation drive at the historic Chappar Chiri War Memorial today, commemorating World Environment Day.
This initiative was a collaborative effort by the Department of Student Affairs, Naya Savera Foundation, NCC, and NSS, uniting students, faculty, and other staff members with a shared vision for a greener future. The event was notably graced by the presence of renowned Punjabi actor Baninder Bunny, a passionate environmental advocate. With immense enthusiasm, guests, students, and staff collectively planted over 500 trees, revitalizing the memorial grounds and reinforcing a strong commitment to ecological restoration.
Further enhancing the spirit of the occasion, students from CGC Jhanjeri showcased innovative sustainable artifacts crafted from waste materials. These exhibits, ranging from recycled decor to functional art, underscored how creativity, when combined with responsibility, can inspire meaningful change and encourage attendees to view waste as a valuable resource.
During the event, Ms. Bismin Dhaliwal, Director of Student Affairs at CGC, shared her thoughts, stating, "This initiative isn't just about planting trees; it's also an endeavor to instill a love and respect for nature in our students." She added, "At CGC Jhanjeri, Mohali, alongside providing quality education, we strive to cultivate responsible citizens so they can become valuable members of society after completing their studies." Actor Baninder Bunny echoed this sentiment, emphasizing, "The seeds sown today are more than just trees; they are seeds of awareness, action, and hope." The staff at Chappar Chiri also commended CGC Jhanjeri's efforts in this commendable initiative.
