Outsiders directed to vacate the Patiala District by 17th May

PATIALA: In view of the Lok Sabha Polls scheduled for 19th May, 2019, the District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Patiala, Mr.Kumar Amit has issued Prohibitory Orders under the provisions of Section 126 of Representation of Peoples Act of 1951.

As per the orders, outsiders who are not on Election duty as well as those who are not residents of Patiala have been ordered to leave the District by 17th May, 2019. These orders are valid till 24th may.

Mr. Kumar Amit informed that prohibitory orders have also been issued against the conduct of any election related activity during this time period starting 6.00 pm on 17th May. Party supporters or functionaries from outside Patiala are no allowed to stay in the District during this time frame.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that extensive arrangements have been made to hold free and fair elections on 19th May. The District Police Chief has been instructed to conduct searches in the local Dharamshalas, Community Halls, hotels, etc. regarding any outsiders staying in these places. Apart from keeping a check on guest houses, the DC has also ordered swifter surveillance and thorough checking of outside vehicles entering Patiala. He has directed that only those eligible to cast their vote in Patiala-13 constituency are allowed to stay from 48 hours before polling process culminates i.e. after 6.00 pm on 17th May.

Mr. Kumar Amit also informed that section 144 had already been imposed in the district and outsiders will not be allowed to stay in Patiala w.e.f. 6.00 pm on 17th May.
