PHAGWARA: As senior Congress leader Mohinder Singh Kaypee quit the Congress party to join Akali Dal on Monday, Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary said that the candidature of Charanjit Singh Channi had wreaked havoc in the Jalandhar Congress and the party high command needed to wake up from its long slumber to salvage the sinking ship.
MLA Chaudhary pointed out that since former Chief Minister Channi’s entry into the politics of Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency, the people and the Congress party workers were unhappy, leading to exodus of the long-standing loyalists to other parties.
“Mohinder Singh Kaypee Ji is a senior leader, who has served both as an MLA and MP, as well as the state president of Punjab Congress. His father sacrificed his life for the national unity and integrity. If esteemed leaders such as him feel disregarded within the party, then it is the responsibility of the high command to wake up from its long slumber and salvage the sinking ship, ” he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that MLA Vikramjit Chaudhary had previously expressed in an interview his inclination to support Kaypee's candidature had the Congress party nominated him for the Lok Sabha elections from Jalandhar.
The Phillaur MLA likened Channi’s arrival in Jalandhar like Shakuni's entry into Hastinapur from Gandhar in the great epic Mahabharata. Channi called himself Sudama, but self-proclaimed Sudama is actually Shakuni, who humiliated Draupadi, deceived his own family members and caused a war among them, but, Chaudhary said, just as Lord Krishna punished Shakuni and his coterie, the voters of Jalandhar will teach Channi a lasting lesson for his treachery by throwing him out of their constituency.
Recalling the past me too allegations against Channi, MLA Chaudhary cautioned that Channi is a misogynist who does not respect women and the people of Jalandhar needed to safeguard their women from him and should not allow him to enter their homes.
