Mohali court awards four years jail to Punjab Police ASI in bribery case

CHANDIGARH: A Mohali court  has sentenced an Assistant Sub inspector (ASI) Anup Singh of Police station Zirkapur for 4 years rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case .

Disclosing this a spokesperson of State Vigilance Bureau said the accused ASI was caught red-handed for taking bribe of Rs.40,000 from  complainant Paramjit Kaur of Panchkula. He was demanding Rs. One lac to help her in a police case registered against her but the deal was struck at Rs. 40,000.

 The VB team laid a trap and the accused ASI was arrested on the spot while accepting bribe of Rs. 40,000/- from the complainant near Kohinoor Dhaba, Zirakpur & bribe money was recovered from his private car.

He added that the Vigilance has successfully contested this case and the court after finding Anup Singh ASI (retd.) guilty of accepting bribe, awarded him imprisonment for 4 years u/s 7 and 3 years u/s 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act and both sentences to run concurrently with fine of Rs. 10,000 each under both counts.
