SGPC honors three women hockey players from Haryana who played Tokyo Olympics

AMRITSAR: As per the decision taken by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to honor the players excelled in Tokyo Olympics, the SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur today handed over Rs. five lakh cheques to three players from the Indian girls hockey team from Haryana Navjot Kaur, Navreet Kaur and Rani Rampal.

Speaking on the occasion, Bibi Jagir Kaur said that Indian hockey players have worked hard to revive hockey.

She said that sports were of great importance in the mental and physical development of the children, therefore the youth should excel in sports as well as education.

Praising the performance of the girls hockey team, Bibi Jagir Kaur said that although the girls hockey team could not get a medal in the Olympics, the country has high hopes for their performance in the future.

Jagir Kaur said that it was decided by the SGPC to award Rs. 5 lakh each to the Olympic athletes under which the boys hockey team has already been honored.

She said that it was a matter of great pleasure that the coach who had imparted training to these girls, Mr. Baldev Singh is currently serving in the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and is coaching the hockey teams being formed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.

She congratulated the players and their family members and hoped that they would make even bigger strides in the future.

On this occasion hockey players Navjot Kaur and Navreet Kaur thanked the President of the Shiromani Committee Bibi Jagir Kaur and said that the honor bestowed on her by the Shiromani Committee was invaluable for her life.
