Ramkumar and Prajnesh win; Mukund loses

CHANDIGARH: Firing eight aces Indian Ramkumar Ramanathan caused a mild upset as he shocked fourth seed and 138th ranked Tomas MacHac of Czech Republic in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the singles first round match of the € 44, 820 ATP Challenger FlowBank Challenger Biel in Switzerland.

In the match lasting 53 minutes, the Indian star did not commit even a single double fault and converted three out of seven breakpoints. Tomas served two aces and committed two double faults.

Down by a set, Prajnesh Gunnrswaran of India hit back to down Aleksandar Kovacevic of America in the first round singles match in the $ 52, 800 Tennis Ohio Championship in Columbus, USA. Prajnesh recorded a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 well-deserved triumph in one hour and 42 minutes.

As many as 22 aces, including eight by Prajnesh were fired. Both players committed two double faults each. While Prajnesh saved o out of five breakpoints and converted two of three breakpoints. Kovacevic saved one breakpoint out of three and converted one out of five breakpoints.

Prajnesh's next opponent will be Mikael Torpegaard of Denmark who ousted Japanese Shintaro Mochizuki 6-3, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (3).

Mukund Sasikumar of India made his early exit as American JJ Wolf scored a straight sets 6-3, 6-2 verdict . The match finished in 89 minutes.
