Nehal and Shashank hit centuries in Atray Trophy

MOHALI: Brilliant centuries by Nehal Wadhera (171) for Punjab Cricket Club and Shashank (102) for Chhattisgarh were the highlights of today's schedule in the 26th All India J.P. Atray Memorial Cricket Tournament for Trident Cup. Punjab Cricket Club defeated RBI Mumbai by 141 runs while Chhattisgarh won against UPCA by nine wickets.

RBI Mumbai won the toss at I.S. Bindra Stadium Mohali against Punjab Cricket Club and opted to field. PCC opened with Nehal Wadhera and Abhijeet Garg to the bowling of Ankit Rajput and Amit Mishra. Nehal Wadhera and Abhijeet Garg blunted the RBI opening attack of Ankit Rajput and Amit Mishra putting up 48 runs for the 1st wicket in 9.4 overs before Abhijeet Garg was caught by Sumit off Amit Mishra for 21 inclusive of 2 boundaries.

Next man in Naman Dhir did not last long and PCC were reduced to 76 for 2 in 14 overs. Thereafter, Sanvir Singh joined Southpaw Nehal Wadhera who had been stroking the ball effortlessly all round the wicket. His free stroking was a treat to watch as he effortlessly road towards his century. His partnership of 151 runs for the third wicket with Sanvir Singh saw him as the dominant partner.

The partnership was broken when Sandeep Singh was caught and bowled by Ali Murtaza for 65 off 62 balls with 4 boundaries. Skipper Anmol Malhotra (23 off 20 balls with 3 boundaries)added 59 runs for the fourth wicket with Nehal Wadhera. Nehal Wadhera was finally caught by Rajesh off Ankit Rajput in the 42nd overs after a sparkling 171 off 143 balls studded with 24 rousing boundaries and two huge sixes. PCC innings ended at 337 for 9 in 50 overs. For RBI Mumbai Ankit Rajput (3 for 54) and Amit Mishra (3 for 67) were the main wicket takers.

Chasing a huge target of 338 for victory, RBI Mumbai made a good start by adding 54 runs for the first wicket . Syan Mandal (30), Sumit Ghadigaonkar (25), Jyot Shaya (30), Rajesh Bishnoi (44) and Chirag Parmar (25) were the main run getters for RBI Mumbai. RBI Mumbai were bowled out for 196 in 36.5 overs. For PCC Sanvir Singh bowled a spirited spell to claim 5 wickets for 20 runs, Barinder Sran and Krishan Alang accounted for 2 wickets each.
Puneet Bali, Honorary Secretary, PCA gave away the Trident Man of the Match to Nehal Wadhera for his 171 runs.

In the second match played at Maharaja Yadavindra Cricket Stadium Mullanpur between UPCA and Chhattisgarh, Chhattisgarh won the match by nine wickets and got four points. Shashank hit a brisk unbeaten century (103) off 93 balls with 12 boundaries and five huge sixes. Ashutosh Singh remained unbeaten on 59 off 81 balls with 6 boundaries. Chhattisgarh Scored 178 for 1 in 29.3 overs.

Chhatisgarh 178 for 1 in 29.3 overs (Shashank Chandrakar 103 not out Ashutosh Singh 59, Yash Dayal 1 for 29). Chhatisgarh won by nine wickets and got four points. Result was achieved by VJD system.
PRB Patna: 144 in 42.4 overs (Shaheem 14, Babul Kumar 33, Sachin Kumar Singh 27, Akash 36 not out, Rishab 2 for 23, Arjun 2 for 34, Manish Shekawat 2 for 20, Hrithik 2 for 18).
Players XI: 148 for 2 in 27 overs (Vednesh 41, Dhruv Kaushik 49, Jiwanjot Singh 38 not out, Arjun 6 not out).
Players XI win by eight wickets.

Earlier UPCA were bowled out for 206 in 48.3 overs with Adishesh Singh 71 off 84 balls with 8 boundaries and one six being the principal run getter. Ajay 5 for 33 was the most successful bowler for Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh won the match on VJD method with the revised target due to rain after the UPCA innings. Shanshank for his brilliant (103) was named Trident Man of the Match.

In the third match played at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium, Players XI Delhi made a short work of Bihar XI by winning the match by eight wickets and garner four points. Bihar XI winning the toss and opting to bat first were bundled out for 144 in 42.4 overs.Babul Kumar 33, Sachin K. Singh 27, Akash unbeaten 36 were the main run getters for Bihar XI. For Players XI Rishab , Arjun , Manish Sherawat and Hrithik Shokeen scalped two wickets each.

Replying players XI Delhi scored 148 for 2 in 27 overs. Vidhansh (41) and Dhruv Kaushik (49) put on 84 runs for the opening stand. Jeevanjot Singh unbeaten 38 was the other principal run getter for Players XI. For Bihar XI Shasheem 1 for 17 and Keshav Kumar 1 for 28 were the main wicket takers Dhruv Kaushik was named Trident Man of the Match.
