NEW YORK: Gatka Federation USA, the leading umbrella organization dedicated to managing, standardizing, promoting, and popularizing Gatka—the traditional Sikh martial art—in the USA, is proud to announce it will be hosting the 3rd US National Gatka Championship-2025 on Saturday, October 4th, 2025. The event will be held at The Sikh Center of New York Inc., under the esteemed guidance of the World Gatka Federation (WGF), the apex international body for the preservation and promotion of Gatka. The management committee of the Sikh Center has officially released the poster for the event.
Gurinder Singh Khalsa, Chairman, and Dr. Deep Singh, General Secretary of Gatka Federation USA, stated that this will be the third open National Gatka championship hosted by the federation. The organization has also successfully conducted numerous Gatka training camps across various states in the US, in collaboration with Gurudwara Committees, Educational Institutes, and other sports organizations. Gatka Federation USA is actively working to establish state chapters nationwide.
They further expressed that they anticipate Gatka players (both Singh and Kaur) from all over the USA. The Gatka Federation's State Chapters, operating under their respective State Gatka Associations, will be sending players to compete in different age categories.
Kalvinder Singh Fresno, President of Gatka Federation USA, shared that the 3rd US National Gatka Championship-2025 will be dedicated to the 350th Martyr anniversary of of Ninth Guru Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib ji. He added that the championship will feature both competitive fights and demonstration events across different age categories. This includes a captivating Under-14 Demonstration, Under-17 and Under-21 combat fights, as well as a new Under-25 Open Girls All Fight Events Single-Soti category. These events are designed to showcase skills in individual Single-Soti fights for both men and women. The primary purpose of this championship is to provide a unified platform for all Gatka players, coaches, referees, and judges, preparing them for future national and international Gatka tournaments and championships.
Bhai Gagandeep Singh, Trustee of Gurdwara Sikh Cultural Society-New York; and Jaskirat Singh, Joint Secretary of New York Gatka Association, emphasized that the goal of this event is to spread awareness about the rich cultural heritage of the Sikh martial art and introduce it to the younger generation.
Also present on this occasion were Sarabjit Kaur, Sikh Activist from Westchester County, and senior New York coaches Sujan Singh and Baljinder Singh Banwait.
