Bopanna-Denis go down fighting in doubles q-final in Madrid Open

CHANDIGARH: Rohan Bopanna and Denis Shapovalov of Canada went down fighting to German pair of Alexander Zverev and Tim Puetz in the evenly contested double quarter-final of the € 3, 226, 325 ATP Masters 1000 Mutua Madrid Open at the Arantxa Sanchez Stadium on Friday.
The Alexander-Tim and Bopanna-Denis pairs split the first two sets before the German pair clinched the issue in the match tie-breaker. Alexander-Tim won by 6-4, 3-6, 10-5.
Bopanna-Denis earned € 20, 400.
Earlier, in round 16 doubles Bopanna-Denis had upset Colombia's top seeded pair of Juan Sebastanian Cabal and Robert Farah 6-3, 6-4.
It was a memorable day for Alexander Zverev who toppled top seed Rafel Nadal 6-4, 6-4 in singles quarter-final.
