Amyra, a class 12 student, reached Ramdas with a “container home” for needy families

AMRITSAR: Under the joint efforts of the Punjab Government under Mission Chardi Kala for the rehabilitation of flood-affected families, people from across the country and abroad are contributing ration, medicines, clothes, utensils, beds, cattle and other essential items. Adding to this spirit of service, Amyra, a class 12 student, has set a remarkable example by donating a container home to a needy family.

At an age when most children are busy with their own lives, Amyra has given a roof to a flood-affected family through her initiative. Today, Amyra along with her father Mr. Raghav Mehra reached Ramdas, one of the most affected areas, with the container home. They were warmly welcomed by MLA Mr. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal and SDM Ajnala Mr. Ravinder Singh.

The container home – a new concept for the region – is equipped with sleeping beds, fans, mobile charging points and other basic facilities, keeping in mind the needs of the family during summer.

Speaking to the media, Amyra shared that during her earlier visit to the flood-affected villages, she noticed that while there was ample food and ration available, families whose houses were destroyed felt hopeless. That is when she resolved to build homes for them to the best of her ability. Encouraged by her father, she discussed the idea with Deputy Commissioner Amritsar, Mrs. Sakshi Sawhney, who assured her full support.

This first container home, prepared in Ludhiana at a cost of about Rs. 5.50 lakh, has been designed to provide all essential facilities of a house. Amyra further stated that she will continue this initiative and, with the help of her friends, arrange more such container homes for flood-hit families.

MLA Mr. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal lauded Amyra’s vision, saying that she deserves heartfelt congratulations for recognizing the true needs of the affected people and fulfilling them with determination and compassion.
