AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today condemned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for creating hurdles in organizing the party’s annual conference to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Sant Harchand Singh Longowal by allotting a venue for which the SAD had already deposited the prescribed fee to the Punar Surjit Dal.
In a statement issued from party headquarters in Chandigarh, senior SAD leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said the party had applied for permission to hold its annual conference in the shed of the Anaj Mandi in Longowal on August 20 in April. He said even though the fee for organizing the conference in the Anaj Mandi shed had also been deposited a fresh application had been procured from the Punar Surjit Dal by AAP minister Aman Arora on the orders of chief minister Bhagwant Mann and the venue reserved for the SAD had been suddenly allotted to the Punar Surjit Dal.
Asserting that this pointed out to a clear collusion between the AAP government and the Punar Surjit Dal, Dr Daljit Cheema said what was even more shocking was that an application had procured from the Punar Dal two days back on August 15 and a decision on the same was taken in one day.
Terming the decision as arbitrary and discriminatory, the SAD leader said the party would approach the Punjab and Haryana high court to get this undemocratic decision reversed and seek justice and protection of its legitimate right to hold the conference as scheduled. He also announced that in case the AAP government did not relent, the SAD would also hold protests against this blatant misuse of State power.
