AMRITSAR: A religious Nagar Kirtan procession was taken out on the eve of birth anniversary of 4th Sikh Guru and founder of holy city Amritsar Sri Guru Ram Dass here on Wednesday.
The nagar kirtan which was started from Akal Takht Sahib after performing Ardas was led by Panj Piaras, after parading in the main thorofares it was ended at Akal Takht Sahib in the evening
Several school children with their bands , brass bands and gatka (Sikh martial art) participated in the Nagar Kirtan
The Gurbani Shabads were recited by several kirtani jathas. They were singing "dhan dhan Guru Ram dass jin several tin savaraya..... betha sodhi patshah Ram dass Guru kahaave."
The holy "bir " Guru Granth Sahib was carried in flower decked planquine and devotees showered flower petals on it.
The roads of entire route were washed with water by devotees.
The police has made elaborate security arrangements .Guru Ram Das was born on 24 September 1534 in a Sodhi Khatri family in Chuna Mandi, Lahore. His father was Bhai Hari Das and mother Bibi Daya Kaur, both of whom died when he was aged seven. He was brought up by his grandmother. He married Bibi Bhani, the younger daughter of Guru Amar Das.
Guru Ram Das ji spread the message of selfless service to the humanity without any discrimination of gender, caste, color, creed and country.
He emphasized on leading simple living and high thinking.
He introduced the concept of 'Four Lawan', the meaning of marriage to a Sikh couple.
