Wheat procurement from april 10, 3.59 lakh MT wheat expected to arrive in mandis

KAPURTHALA: Punjab Government to start procurement of wheat from April 10, under which it is estimated that 3.59 lakh metric tonnes of wheat would arrive in the mandis of the district.

Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Deepti Uppal today chaied a meeting regading that which included Additional Deputy Commissioner Development Mr. SP Angra, District Food and Supply Controller, District Mandi Officer, District Managers of Procurement Agencies, Representatives of artiyas Associations and discussed the smooth running of the entire procurement process.

Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration has made all necessary arrangements for the smooth procurement of wheat including cleanliness of mandis, drinking water, electricity, gunny bags etc. She said that due to the fast growing cases of corona, passes would be issued to farmrrs this time too to bring the wheat in mandi so that there would be no congestion in the mandis.

District Food Supply Controller Mrs. Geeta Bisambhu said that arrangements have been made for the procurement and storage of wheat by various agencies so that the farmers and artisans would not face any problem. Apart from this District Mandi Officer Arvinder Singh said that besides the 42 permanent mandis, a proposal has been sent to declare 21 more private places as temporary mandis.

President of Arhatya Association Kapurthala Mr. Rajinder Kaura, President of Arhatya Association from Begowal Mr. Surat Singh said that the time of harvesting of wheat should be fixed so that the moisture content should not be high than the prescribed limit.

Deputy Commissioner appealed to the farmers to bring only dry crop in the mandis. In addition, combine owners were told not to harvest in early hours. On this occasion Daljit Singh District Manager PUNSAP, Rajesh ADM Warehouses were also present.
