War veterans seek better deal

PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | July 03, 2022 10:29 PM

PATIALA:Capt. Amarjit Singh Jaijee, a war veteran has urged the Punjab government to sanction a special monthly pension for the war veterans of 1965 and 1971 wars according to their status.

Capt. Jaijee met Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann at the airport here yesterday and submitted a letter to him listing some of the demands of the war veterans.

Capt Jaijee has sought due honour to the war veterans who were all now in the eighty plus age group.
He has requested the Punjab government to take up with the union government the issue of extension of medical facilities to all short service commissioned officers in full.

A special provision be made by the union government to ensure that SSC officers, when released from service are accomodated in Central Paramilitary forces or in state government services as they were highly trained officers, Jaijee added.

Capt Jaijee said during the national emergency in the country after the Chinese aggression of 1962, three officers’ training schools were established to train officers for the three services and these officers came to be known as Emergency Commissioned Officers and later converted to Short Service Commission.

He said Punjab has been the sword arm of the country and the state government has always come forward to help the veterans in the best possible way.

He brought to the notice of CM Bhagwant Mann that the Assam government has already honoured war veterans with monetary benefits.

Capt Jaijee said the CM gave him a patient hearing and assured to look into their demands.
