Voting for Kapurthala and Sultanpur Lodhi MCs today

KAPURTHALA : Voters from Kapurthala Municipal Corporation and Sultanpur Lodhi Municipal Council would use their franchise tomorrow February 14 from 8 am to 4 pm, during which the fate of candidates for 49 wards of Kapurthala Municipal Corporation and 13 wards of Sultanpur Lodhi Municipal Council would be decided. The ward no 8 at kapurthala MC witnessed election of a candidate unopposed.

A total of 196 candidates are in the fray for Kapurthala Municipal Corporation while 42 candidates are in the fray for Sultanpur Lodhi Municipal Council. The district administration has set up 96 polling booths for both the corporations, out of which 81 are in Kapurthala and 15 in Sultanpur Lodhi.

In Kapurthala Municipal Corporation, 69327 voters would be able to exercise their democratic right, out of which 35739 are male and 33575 are female voters while 13 voters belongs to third gender whereas Sultanpur Lodhi MC have 12, 764 voters.

District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala Deepti Uppal said that as per the instructions of Punjab State Election Commission covid protocol would be strictly followed during the voting. Talking about the arrangments she said that 4 duty magistrates have been posted at Kapurthala and 2 at Sultanpur Lodhi for smooth coordination of civil and police administration.

Meanwhile, S.S. P. Kapurthala Kanwardeep Kaur today reviewed the security arrangements for smooth conduct of elections in the district by visited various polling booths . She said that necessary arrangements have been made by the district police for holding peaceful elections so that the people could exercise their democratic right without any fear or apprehension.

She said that strict security arrangements have been made, under which about 1500 security personnel have been deployed. Apart from this, the two cities have been divided into different zones. Two SP level officials will ensure that the entire voting process in Kapurthala is conducted in fair manner besides one SP level officer at sultanpur lodhi.

In addition, 4 DSPs have been posted at Kapurthala while 2 at Sultanpur Lodhi. Apart from this anti riot squads have also been deployed to deal with any untoward situation. Both the officials have urged the people to exercise their voting without any fear or greed.
