CHANDIGARH: Terming the landslide victory in local bodies polls as an strongest endorsement of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh's ability to negate grave central efforts to destabilise Punjab, state Congress president Sunil Jakhar said that maintainence of amity and communal harmony would be the central plank of Congress government to steer the state on part of unprecedented growth, development and prosperity.

Addressing a press conference here after the declaration of poll results earlier this afternoon, Jakhar underlined the trust reposed by Punjabis in the visionary and dynamic leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh which he said was key to sustain the era of all round progress unleashed in the Punjab in the last four years.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President further said that Punjabis have demonstrated their trust in Congress party's policies in the local bodies polls because they know that amidst oppression by centre when Covid has wrecked havoc it is only Captain Amarinder Singh's secular vision which can steer Punjab towards prosperity.

Jakhar also said that Punjabis with this landslide verdict have categorically rejected the divisive and negative policies of SAD, BJP and AAP. Terming this win as a win of people of Punjab and party workers, Jakhar said that with this victory party's responsibility towards the state and its people has grown further, and party is initiating its campaign for next year assembly polls. Captainfor2022, the party's mission under Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is being launched today, he said.

State Congress Chief said that party has already secured victory in 98 local bodies results announced so far out of 104, leading to a rout of opposition parties. He further said that people have voted in a calibrated manner keeping in mind the future aspirations of the state by rejecting BJP, AAP, and SAD. Congress is thankful to all Punjabis for their trust in the party, he added.

Lambasting BJP led central government for its nefarious efforts to thrust an economic blockade on Punjab and by halting train movement in the state, Jakhar asserted that Punjabis have sent a strong message of unity against this oppressive attitude which centre must heed with all seriousness.

Punjabis don't get swayed by an individual's 'mann ki baat' but makes others listen to their collective resolve, Jakhar said in a direct reference to PM's one sided audio monologue. Punjabis have sent a stern message to BJP via exercise of their democratic right that centre must backtrack and amend its insensitive policies.

Where as people have totally rejected AAP too, it won't be a surprise if SAD and BJP who pretend to have parted ways , come together again now. There is no difference in anti-people policies of BJP and SAD and that's why Akali Dal is not saying anything to criticise centre's oppressive policies. This shows these three parties are hands in gloves with each other, Jakhar pointed out.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Congress president also said that this too has happened for the first time that party had constituted a state election committee under Lal Singh Ji to ensure seamless distribution of tickets adding that the committee had done an admirable job visible in the overwhelming response of people. Jakhar also extended his congratulations to all members of this committee and all districts observors whose unflinching committment has ensured this stupendous win.

Jakhar also reiterated his offer to BJP state president Ashwani Sharma to debate the central farmer laws with him. On the occasion Political Secretary to CM Captain Sandeep Sandhu and Punjab Youth Congress president Brinder Singh Dhillon were also present.
