SANGRUR:27 years old farmer Gursevak Singh from village Khurana of district Sangrur has set an example to others by eco-friendly management of crop stubble.

PGDCA holder Gursevak Singh s/o Raghveer Singh said that he is currently working as a demonstrator under PAMETI, Ludhiana. ‘’I am working for March 2018 under a project run with the help of UNEP (United Nations Environment Program) by PAMETI. As per this programme I am making aware of the farmers of Kanoi, Tungan and Uppli villages of district against stubble burning. This year about farmers of village Tungan are sowing wheat with Rotavator and Happy Seeder in almost 70 percent of the land area’’ he says

Describing his success story, Gursevak Singh said that he had decided not to burn the crop residues in 2016. This year, he has sown wheat in 13 acres land with the help of Happy Seeder and expecting average yields to increase by about 4-5 quintals per acre. Gurshevak Singh claimed that his agricultural expenses were also reduced by crop residue management.

 Gursevak Singh said that under the Crop Residue Management (CRM) scheme of Punjab Government Bhullar Agriculture Self Help Group, Khurana has taken subsidiary machinery on 80% subsidy for crop residue management and farmers of village are taking full advantage of it.

Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Mr. Ghanshyam Thori said that young farmer Gursevak Singh has shown a way to others. He appealed the farmers of the district to take maximum advantage of Punjab Government's schemes for management of crop residue so that 'Mission Tandrust Punjab' can be made fully successful.
