AMRITSAR: Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Amritsar, Gulpreet Singh Aulakh, has launched a city-wide campaign for the maintenance of major roads.
Under this initiative, teams of various officials from the corporation have been assigned to oversee different roads and are submitting weekly reports. A meeting was held today (10/06/2025) with these officials, including officers from PWD and Traffic Police.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that while most development work on the city’s main roads is almost complete — including pothole repairs, sidewalk maintenance, verge trimming, and streetlight repairs — issues like unauthorized dumping of debris, garbage, and encroachments still persist.
The Commissioner instructed PWD and Traffic Police officials to coordinate with the Municipal Corporation teams and take strict action.
Those present in the meeting included Executive Engineers Bhalinder Singh, Manjeet Singh, S.P. Singh, Swarajinder Pal Singh, Sunil Mahajan, Health Officers Dr. Kiran, Dr. Yogesh Arora, Dr. Rama (AMOH), Estate Officer Dharminderjeet Singh, Traffic Inspectors Ram Davinder Singh, Amarjeet Singh, and other SDOs from the Corporation.
The Commissioner shared his daily inspection updates and raised concerns regarding:
Illegal sand trolley parking causing traffic disruption from Golden Gate to Bhandari Bridge.
Unauthorized car displays by scooter agencies outside showrooms.
Encroachments in the Bhandari Bridge tyre market.
Unauthorized rehri (cart) vendors and kiosks under the elevated road on Batala Road.
Dumping of construction debris and shop waste on main roads.
He emphasized that the Estate Officer has been directed to form a coordinated action plan with the traffic police and launch removal drives. Health and civil officials have been instructed to issue challans for garbage/debris dumping and raise awareness among the public.
Furthermore, some private companies have proposed to maintain and beautify key city intersections under CSR initiatives, which will soon be implemented.
