Targeting Dalits: Is BJP Pushing India Towards Chaos? – Pargat Singh

PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | October 11, 2025 05:54 AM

CHANDIGARH: Padma Shri Pargat Singh, Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and MLA, has strongly condemned the increasing atrocities against the Dalit community nationwide, calling it a deliberate and dangerous conspiracy. He explicitly held the BJP-led central government to account for these developments. Singh cited recent incidents—including the brutal murder of a Dalit man in Rae Bareli, the attack on a Dalit Supreme Court judge, and the suicide of a Dalit IPS officer in Haryana—as proof of a grave and growing crisis. He demanded strict enforcement of the SC/ST Act, independent inquiries, and sweeping reforms to eradicate caste discrimination.

“BJP’s claims of allegiance to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Constitution ring hollow in light of its actions. Setting aside constitutional principles has become routine, and the unchecked assaults on Dalits point to a worrying scheme, ” Singh stated. He linked the attacks on Chief Justice B.R. Gavai and IPS V.E. Poorn Kumar directly to efforts aimed at weakening the Constitution’s guardians.

Singh described the suicide of Haryana IPS officer Poorn Kumar as a stark symbol of the deepening social poison that caste prejudice injects into Indian society. “If a senior IPS officer faces humiliation and cruelty because of his caste, what conditions must ordinary Dalit citizens endure?” Singh asked. “When we see the murder in Rae Bareli, the humiliation of our Chief Justice, and the tragic death of an IPS officer, it is clear that injustice against the marginalized is reaching its peak.”

He further noted, “The hate and divisive mindset propagated by RSS-BJP have poisoned our social fabric. Dalits, Adivasis, backward classes, and Muslims today are losing hope for justice. This struggle is not just Poorn Kumar’s—it is the struggle of every Indian who believes in the Constitution, equality, and fairness.”

Singh condemned the October 2 murder of Hari Om Valmiki in Rae Bareli’s Ishwardadpur village as a “stain on humanity.” According to reports, Valmiki, who struggled with mental health, was assaulted for hours by a mob and later, after temporary police custody, attacked again—leading to his death. His body was discovered the next morning.

Singh denounced the October 6 attack on Supreme Court Chief Justice B.R. Gavai and the institutional caste-driven suicide of Haryana IPS officer Poorn Kumar as events that have rocked not just society, but the foundations of Indian democracy. “The Constitution guarantees equality for all; yet, attacks on its defenders warn of a looming storm. We must ask: as BJP and RSS see their hold threatened, are we being pushed toward chaos?” Singh remarked.
