CHANDIGARH: The silence of BJP state president Sunil Jakhar and scores of other Sikh leaders who left Congress and SAD to join BJP is becoming more louder now when the farmers of Punjab are being attacked at border by BJP ruled Haryana and the Center governments.
Incidently Sunil Jakhar is himself a farmer from Fazilka district and his father was Balram Jakhar was a noted farmer leader in the Congress party. Jakhar who remained PPCC president for over five years had defected to BJP about two years back. He followed former CM Captain Amarinder Singh who joined BJP after he was forced by Congress high command to resign from post of Chief Minister. About half a dozen former Congress ministers and leaders, mostly from farmer families had also joined BJP.
None of the former Congress leaders, now in BJP had spoken a word in support of farmers who are being detained and attacked by Haryana police and para-miitary forces at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders to stopt their march to Delhi. Jakhar and Capt Amarinder Singh were very vocal to support the farmer's agitation in 2019 and also criticised the BJP led center government at the center.
The present PPCC president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and farmer leaders have raised questions over the silence of Jakhar and other Sikh leaders in BJP. Raja Warring said that Jakhar had sealed his lips and not speaking against violence against the farmers by BJP ruled Haryana and center governments. He said that it was shameful that Sunil Jakhar was closed his eyes and ears even as he consider himself a champion of rights of farming community. He told Sunil Jakhar to riase the issue of Punjab farmers with the center government.
The leaders of Samyukt Kisan Morcha have said that it was sad state of affairs that many Sikh leaders in BJP are linked with agriculture but they cant dare to speak against terror created by Haryana government.
