AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, said on Sunday that an inquiry is underway into the incident of giving a Siropa to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at Gurdwara Baba Buddha Sahib, Ramdas.
Dhami clarified that as per the decision of the SGPC’s Interim Committee, there is a clear ban on offering Siropas to political leaders or so-called “special personalities” in the sanctum of gurdwaras. He emphasized that this honor is reserved strictly for religious figures, Ragi Singhs, and Sikh greats.
“A full investigation has been initiated into what happened at Baba Buddha Sahib. A complete report will be submitted by tomorrow, and strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty, ” Dhami said.
The SGPC chief also pointed out that Rahul Gandhi, being a member of the Gandhi family, carries the historical baggage of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. “Someone guilty of genocide against Sikhs can never be accepted for the honor of a Siropa from any Gurdwara Sahib, ” he asserted.
