AMRITSAR: The Indian government's decision not to grant permission to the Sikh Jatha to visit the historic Gurdwaras in Pakistan on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is extremely unfortunate and disappointing.

Advocate Dhami said that governments should not forget that Sikh ideology unites humanity and teaches mutual harmony. The message of Guru Nanak Sahib Ji inspires people of every religion, caste and society towards unity, love and humility. For this reason, the pilgrimage to Gurdwaras is not only religious, but also a means of strengthening human feelings and relationships.
He further said that the pilgrimage to the shrines in Pakistan strengthens the common ties between the two countries and brings closeness between the hearts of the people. Therefore, the government's decision to stop this pilgrimage is a disappointing step.
The SGPC President clarified that the Government of India has taken this decision by ignoring the sentiments of the Sikh community, due to which there is huge resentment in the Sikh world.
He appealed to the Government of India to respect the religious sentiments of the Sikh community and immediately give permission for this religious pilgrimage so that the community can visit the Gurdwaras related to their unwavering faith on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Sahib Ji.
The SGPC President also appealed to the Khalsa Panth to register its clear opposition against this unfortunate decision of the Government of India so that the religious sentiments of the Sikh community are not tampered with in the future.
Advocate Dhami said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee is also writing a detailed letter to the central government in this regard.
