SGPC President strongly condemned the desecration in Cheema Pota village of Hoshiarpur district

AMRITSAR: Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee strongly condemned the incident of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at Cheema Pota village in Hoshiarpur district and said that the culprits of this incident which hurt Sikh sentiments should not be spared at any cost.

He said that as soon as this incident was known, the Shiromani Committee officials reached the spot and the manager of Gurdwara Sri Garna Sahi. An inquiry report has been sought through Avtar Singh and Pracharak Bhai Kalyan Singh.

He said that although the villagers have filed a complaint in the Mukerian police station, the Shiromani Committee will support the Sangat at all levels so that action can be taken against the culprits. He said that it is the responsibility of the police administration to look for the culprits and if any laxity is used, the government will be responsible for the protest and anger of the people. He said that the forces working behind this incident should also be brought to book.

Advocate Dhami said that incidents of blasphemy are happening continuously in Punjab, but due to lax functioning of the government, the accused escape. Shiromani Committee President said that today's incident has once again shocked the Sikhs as well as every sensible person.

Advocate Dhami demanded that provision of strict punishments in cases of obscenities should be made mandatory and speedy court hearings should be ensured in such cases.

The Shiromani Committee President also appealed to the Sangat to make proper arrangements for monitoring and security through CCTV cameras inside the Gurdwaras and to keep the servicemen present at the Gurdwaras at all times for guarding.
